Christmas Goodness

We had the best, relaxing, yummy, warm, white, chocolaty Christmas! I was nervous about being a little lonely with no family around, but we relished in the alone time with our little kids and the magic of Christmas. Both Trev and I thought it was one of our best Christmas's together. BUT, we are ready to party it up with the Dalley group for New Years! Bring on the family, cousins, and games for those over age 6 (you can only play so many games of Disney Bingo without going crazy).

So, here is our holiday in a few pictures..............

O Little Town of Bethlehem

We had staring roles at our adults only ward Christmas party. Okay, so we just had to sit there while the choir sang, but it was a lot of pressure to keep our little baby Jesus quiet the whole time. Rylan did great...what a special job! I am afraid all three of us are almost out of the age group where they ask you to do this sort of thing...representing a young Mary and Joseph and all. But it was sure sweet to be holding our little one and to reflect on the emotions and feelings of that sacred night so long ago. The coming of our Savior and King in such humble circumstances is truly remarkable. May we all feel of His love this Christmas season.

Are you guys catching on to my Christmas music titles? Can you really get too much Christmas music this time of year?

Here Comes Santa Claus

The kids had breakfast with Santa on Saturday morning at the church. Addy was a little timid at first, but finally got up her courage to sit on the big guy's lap....her first year to make it that far. There is something pretty scary about a large man with a white beard! But, Carson and Addy were relieved to make their Christmas wishes known to the man in charge! The excitement is building around here....

Baby, It's Cold Outside!

Okay, it isn't THAT cold...we lived in Utah you know. So, this isn't a really unusual storm...but you should see the news headlines and coverage around here for our little 1-2 inches of snow! Carson's school had late start on Monday, school on Tuesday, and has been cancelled the last two days. We are sticking close to home and enjoying the snow while it is here and hoping it sticks around long enough for a white Christmas!

O Christmas Tree

We ventured to the Red Barn in Orting again this year to cut down our Christmas tree. The kids love this tradition. We went extra early on Saturday Dec. 6th to avoid the crowds. They have a little train that takes you around the tree farm. Once you find and cut your tree down, the train picks you up (and your tree) and takes you back the barn. Then we went out for hot chocolate (and, by the way, Starbucks "Signature Hot Chocolate" is the absolute BEST!).

The next day I spent about 2 hours putting on the lights. I am picky. I like the look of lots of lights, but you have to really take your time so the lights are tightly wrapped around the branches so the cord doesn't show.....you know? It is a tedious job that I have inherited in our family. It takes forever and the kids are running around in the back ground asking..."can we decorate it now?!" a zillion times. I keep thinking a nice, pre-lit, fake tree would have its perks. But we are all about the experience ... and it just wouldn't be the same if we didn't wander around a tree farm and cut one down! And, now, all those lights make it look so good! And did I mention the fresh evergreen smell??? Can't beat that. Okay, fresh tree it is.

Rylan vs Carson

Rylan (left), Carson (right) around 2-3 months old. Definitely related, definitely brothers.

Three months old already

Why does the last 3 months of pregnancy seem to drag on forever and the first 3 months of a newborn's life seem to fly by? Rylan is smiling, giggling, growing, and sleeping a little better. Hallelujah! The kids still adore him and are very concerned Santa won't bring the baby anything because he can't talk and tell Santa what he wants. I am counting that as a partial sense of 'giving' instead of 'receiving' this season. We are working on it.

1:00 AM

So, I just finished mopping the kitchen floor (my LEAST favorite household chore...okay, maybe folding clothes is a tie), and I walk up the stairs to find Carson peeing in the garbage can in the bathroom. Now, at least he was IN the bathroom and the garbage can IS white like the toilet...so I can KIND OF see where he got confused, but hello?! Grrr. He was so out of it ... he just looked at me when I asked him why he peed in the garbage can. He was really trying to figure out why. I couldn't get mad, I mean, he was obviously barely coherent. I just tucked him back in bed and told him to try and remember to pee in the toilet and not garbage cans. Apparently that doesn't go without saying. So feel sorry for me as I now go clean out the pee garbage. At least little Ry is sound asleep, but knowing my luck, he'll wake as soon as my face hits the pillow. How do newborns really do that??

New Niece!

Most of you know my sister, Charise, and I were prego at the same time. She was due one month after me. It was fun having her close by so we could swap pregnancy woes. She was a huge help when Rylan was born...all while being 9 months pregnant! And she pulled off the pregnancy looking so great all the way to the end! We were all so excited when baby Brynn (isn't that name cute?!) arrived on October 14th. She continues to look so petite when you put her next to Rylan. It's amazing how much difference 5 weeks makes at this age. I am sure they'll be good little friends and cousins. Plus, we are adding another cousin into the mix on this side in just a couple months! We are anxious for Aunt Camille's baby boy! Plus two baby cousins coming on the other side of the family in the Spring...we are ALL about babies right now and loving it!

Grandma with the two babies!

We tried to get a nice picture of both of them together. This was the best one I got:
And 10 seconds later.... (oh, well...we tried!)

I had to stick in these pictures of Grandpa with Rylan (his namesake!) from his visit up here to see both babies. After having 4 daughters and 1 son, Grandpa is proud that in January, he'll have a full basketball team of grandsons! Go team.

Halloween!

Halloween Night included fun at the ward carnival, homemade chili, warm bread, apple cider, candy (of course!), lit pumpkins, spiderwebs on the porch, trick or treating, warm weather (no rain!), movies, and three cute kids! The excitement level for Halloween challenges Christmas around here. It is amazing how a huge bag of candy can transform a kid. And, I mean huge (check out the last picture). At 2 pieces/day .... it is going to last forever. My friend said they buy their kids' Halloween candy. I wonder if that would work?...I mean, I think my kids would use the $$ to go buy more candy! My 'present' to them on Halloween was brand new toothbrushes and their own tubes of toothpaste! We'll need it around here.

Calling all Glamour Girls!

Addison turned 4 years old today! She has been talking for months about her "Fancy Nancy" birthday party...and the countdown was finally over! If you don't have the 'Fancy Nancy' books, they are a must-have for any girly girl! Nancy is an over-the-top girl who loves everything fancy (i.e. gaudy! and every girls' dream!). Addison celebrated her big day with 5 'glamour girls' and 1 'handsome' boy.

Addy was so excited to get dressed up all fancy! We are talking bows, glitter, ribbons, necklaces, bracelets, make-up, curls, crown, shoes, sunglasses...the works....just like Fancy Nancy. We had a fancy lunch of sandwiches and cheese cut out in heart shapes and lemonade in real glasses. I finally put to use all those fancy platters and crystal that are tucked away. We decorated hats that Addy later remarked were "so posh". After a quick game, presents and cake...the fun-filled hour was over. She made my day when she exclaimed "this is the best birthday ever!"

Later that night the whole family dressed up fancy to go to dinner (just like in the book). She got a lot of attention at Applebee's ... and some ladies next to us actually recognized her from the book! And I didn't even mind wearing a feather boa around :-)

Thanks to all her fun friends who came to celebrate. And thanks to all the family who called to wish our fancy girl happy birthday! Girls are so fun...we are so glad she brings some glamour to our otherwise 'plain' family. I think I had just as much fun as her planning a girly girls party!! Happy 4th birthday Addy! We can't believe 4 years has gone by so quickly! We can't imagine our little family without you!

Rylan's Baby Blessing

Rylan was blessed last Sunday, October 13th by Trevor. We had a great time with our friends and family who came to share the event with us. Rylan was a little fussy right before church started but managed to go into a deep slumber for the blessing. It is a sweet and spiritual experience to watch another baby join our family. We had a soup and bread at the house and it was actually really relaxing despite the big group. It is hard to believe he is 6 weeks old already.

Baby Announcement

Kudos to Tia for the amazing photo! And, you know I have skills...just look at the photoshop work. Okay, so really I just know how to use 3 buttons in photoshop. But I saved serious coinage by creating it myself and printing them at Costco...go me, go Costco.

Newborn Yummy

Isn't he just dear? The rest of us? ....we are adjusting....slowly, but adjusting. It is hard to force myself to get the kids going in the morning when the baby had a rough night (and we are talking about multiple rough nights, peeps). I am hoping Rylan's internal clock will get on track with mine soon! My friend gave me some good advice...no one has ever died from being too tired! Like I said, we are adjusting :-) But I still find myself wishing I could just stop time and keep him this little.

Why I {Blog}

My little blog is a family journal. I include things on here I want to remember years and years from now. So when I post a zillion pictures...it is because I want to have it for my posterity. So please forgive the often posted-picture overload.

Currently I am trying to focus on my photography skills...reading, reading, reading, and taking pictures when I can. Then edit, read, read, read some more. I finally feel like I have a basic understanding of exposure...hooray! I updated my blog template so I can display larger photos because...aren't pictures better than anything I have to say anyway?
