Baby Rylan

We've been home a day and half now. Life is a little crazy. I didn't anticipate how much the kids would be into this little baby....they can't keep their hands off him!! ...which has proven to be not such a good thing. So, we are trying to get some boundaries established. Grandma has been a HUGE help! Anyhow....here are the details and photos of the big day (just skip to the pictures if you aren't into all that labor and delivery info :-)

We got to the hospital at 6:45 am. I hardly got any sleep the night before...too much anticipation. Anyway, they got me all signed in and hooked up. I was measuring about 5-6cm before we started the pitocin at 8:00am. Then the epidural at 9:00am. After receiving the epidural, my blood pressure tanked...like seriously low. All the nurses and anesthesiologist were whispering and shifting me around and I was really dizzy and out of it a bit. So, they took me off the pitocin until my blood pressure stabilized, which it did after they pumped like 3 bags of liquid into me. Then we just waited. Like in my previous deliveries...not much action on the pitocin. Some regular contractions for awhile, then they would fade off. My doctor came to break my water around 10:00am...but decided not to because the baby was still at -1 station and they didn't want to break my water and risk the cord coming down before the head. So they decided to let me wait a little longer on the pitocin to see if he would descend a bit more. Then my doctor had a surgery...so she didn't come back until 1:30pm. I was about 8 cm, still at -1 station. So she broke my water while the nurse was pressing on my abdomen to keep the baby from 'floating' back up. The doctor left and came back at 2:00pm when I had fully dilated. We waited for a contraction and pushed 3 times, waited for the 2nd contraction and pushed twice --- and he was here. Seriously, he practically slipped out. Apparently, I am an excellent pusher :-) His sweet cry was a joy! He is my biggest baby (by 2 ounces and 1 inch). So, I am glad I didn't wait another week! He is perfect in every way. While they were cleaning him up the focus shifted back to me and some unexplained bleeding...again, more whispering by my nursers and more bags of fluid being hung and forced into me. I never really knew what was going on, but they got me all fixed up.
The kids came about 30 minutes later. Thanks to my sister, Charise, for coming down the night before with her daughter to take care of the kids all day so my mom could be at the hospital with us. They stopped by earlier in the day before the baby came...so they were really ready by the time he was finally here! They just ate him up...all smiles, oohs and aaahs, and giggles. My brother's family came too within the hour. Then I hit a brick wall...seriously, I was more tired then I have ever been...and starving. After my mom dropped off lunch, I just slept. I couldn't even hold the baby I was so exhausted...I think all due to the lack of sleep the night before! So they left me in labor and delivery for 4 hours to recover. My left leg took almost 6 hours for the epidural to fully wear off. That was strange. But by the evening, I was up walking around a bit. By far less pain in the recovery with this baby than my other two, for which I am grateful. I felt like I was hit by a bus with Carson. So, I am either tougher now...or just more realistic. We celebrated our anniverary with take-out Olive Garden and our sweet new baby.
We got released a little early from the hospital...could've stayed another night...but the hospital is just so UN-relaxing. The constant flow of action is just crazy. Why do they have to draw your blood at 5am? Then the picture people, hearing check, pediatrician, vitals check, pill doses, lactation specialist, my doctor follow up, anesthesiologist followup, etc, etc. etc. I was ready to leave after our mandatory 24 hour stay. So we left around 2:30 the next day.

We love having the little guy home! He is sweet as can be. We feel so blessed to have him in our family. There is nothing like a newborn, and we are soaking it in.

Yay! BTW, totally not unusual for your BP to tank after an epdiural. Noramlly we pump the fluid before hand -- but some nurses aren't so smart. Might want to remember the bleeding and remind your doctor next time so the nurses can have the stuff at bedside. :)

Well you certainly don't look like you hadn't slept and like you'd been through a lot! You look beautiful in those pictures! Hit by a bus was exactly the words I used to describe how I felt after Cash. Let's hope by the third pregnancy that gets better. I had them give me Ambien the second night I was in the hospital and told them to let me skip a feeding. I was SO exhausted. It worked like a charm. He's beautiful!!! Congrats!

Why I {Blog}

My little blog is a family journal. I include things on here I want to remember years and years from now. So when I post a zillion pictures...it is because I want to have it for my posterity. So please forgive the often posted-picture overload.

Currently I am trying to focus on my photography skills...reading, reading, reading, and taking pictures when I can. Then edit, read, read, read some more. I finally feel like I have a basic understanding of exposure...hooray! I updated my blog template so I can display larger photos because...aren't pictures better than anything I have to say anyway?

More about me here.
