{Happy Valentine's Day!!}

Valentine's Day is so fun! We have been celebrating for a  week.  We took one day to do Valentine's for cousins, aunts & uncles, grandparents and great-grandparents.  And one day to do their Valentine's for their classmates at school. (By the way....so glad this is a 'neutral' holiday that kids can still celebrate at school!!  We don't get Christmas, Easter, or even Halloween anymore...so you must live it up on Valentine's Day!)  The kids love getting their class lists, valentines, treats, 'valentine box', etc...don't you totally remember loving that in grade school??!

And on one night we did Valentines for each other.  Cutting, pasting, gluing, coloring...my kids love all of that!  And then I hung them on our sliding door.

I think I will attempt a raspberry cheesecake for Valentine's Day dessert along with 'Red' food for dinner.  Trevor is in charge of the usual Valentine's Day surprises for the kids (think small trinkets and candies....but seems super-big time for the kids!).  And I bought them 50 cent candy grams from the PTA to be delivered to them at school tomorrow.  Love being a Mom to my 3 sweet Valentines!!  And was lucky to sneak away on Saturday night with main Valentine on a date night to dinner and the ward 'Sweetheart Dance'.  It was a throwback to proms of yester-year...and really fun! Feeling loved and blessed...and hope you are too!!

{Pregnancy Pics}

Do I dare even post these?

Kind of awkward to post individual shots of myself...

But considering this is the caboose in the Pettingill-baby train, I wanted to document my pregnant self before the baby bump takes over my body.

So I am throwing my shyness concerns out the window. But don't worry...there aren't any bare tummy shots below. I have to draw the line somewhere!

I feel blessed to have been able to carry a baby 4 separate times in the last 10 years.

It truly is a blessing.

And even though things are starting to get uncomfortable and the the 'bump' has definitely grown tremendously even since these shots, I find myself treasuring it.

The little (and big) kicks, the baby hiccups, the 'shelf' of a tummy to rest my arms or plate on, watching your body change to accommodate this tiny human life, the questions from strangers, the love and concern from family, the excitement of my other children, and the anticipation of this little one joining our family in May!

A 40 week pregnancy feels like an eternity while you are carrying the baby, but then seems like such a snapshot in time looking back.

And I want to remember it.

I handed over my camera to my sister who has the photography bug like me.  She did a great job! And I just finally got them all edited yesterday.

And what better place than sunny San Diego? These were taken a few weeks ago when I was 25 weeks.

We took some shots of my cute sister too...she is due 5 weeks ahead of me.  So we had to get a shot of the two of us together! We looked like a baby-making family in San Diego ...with 2 newborns and 2 pregos.  But I guess we kind of are right now!!  Lots of babies means lots of cousins!

{Family Pics 2010...finally posting}

I never posted our family pictures taken in September 2010....I know it was several months ago, but better late than never, and I figure we haven't changed too much!

I was so glad to get these pics taken before the rush of the Holiday season for two reasons.  One: It made getting the Christmas cards out so much easier (b/c getting that great photo is the hardest part!!).  And two: I wasn't showing that pregnant belly yet!  I had to put on a lot of make up to conceal my nausea-stricken face, but it was worth it.

Thank you thank you thank you to our fabulous photographer, Kali Leenstra of KaliLu Photography.  My sister had her family pics taken by Kali so I started following her blog.  And then I attended one of her photography workshops about a year ago, and it was so fun! She was so great to work with such an amateur like me.  It was fun to peak into the brain of a real professional.  So when she ran a fall photography special, I jumped at the chance for her to take our family photos.

Here are some of my favorites.  And you can see more on her blog here, including some individual shots of the kids which I love.   Family pictures are so important! I love being able to capture and preserve our little family just as it is right now.

{Carson's 9th Birthday/Movie Party}

The day after I got back from San Diego was Carson's 9th birthday!  Seriously can't believe I have a 9 year old!  He is such a good kid, and I wanted to make sure his day was extra special! But I hadn't prepared much before hand so the day was exhausting to say the least:  Decorate mirror in bathroom, birthday breakfast, send-off to school, shopping for presents, buy treats for Carson's class, pick up Carson for lunch out to McDonald's, sneak in a hair cut for the boys, back to school to pass out treats, bake cake, make birthday dinner and finally cake/candles/presents when dad got home.  Whew! It was fun but definitely wore me out!

We scheduled his 'friend' party for the following Saturday....which gave me 3 days to get ready.  Kids birthday parties are the best!  I tend to go a bit overboard, but I just can't help myself...it was so fun! And I loved the theme he picked out this year....A movie party!

Trevor was in charge of creating the ticket booth (and did a great job too!  The kids are still playing with it!)  When his friends arrived they were given an envelope of play money to buy a movie ticket and concessions.

The concessions table.  This was so fun to put together. We had nachos, popcorn, hot dogs, candy, and soda.

 I borrowed my friend's tabletop popcorn maker....it was the hit of the party!  It was the coolest and so easy too!  Makes me really want to have one of my own!  The kids loved it.  And fresh popcorn is oh-so-good!

The kids had their own trays to stash their goodies...and the party was a breeze after that.  We watched 'Despicable Me' (which is hilarious if you haven't seen it yet!).  The kids were in the zone.  It was so easy.  I just refilled drinks, nachos, popcorn while they all quietly watched the movie.  No chaos, no wrestling boys, no running around.  It was a great choice for 9 year-olds!
We had just enough time after the movie to open a few presents and have cupcakes.
Aren't these the cutest?
My friend gave me the idea and sent me the tutorial and my sister-in-law helped me assemble (thanks Anne!) It really was so easy...bake cupcake, frost with swirly frosting, cut up marshmallows on top, brushed with a little watered down yellow food coloring. I bought the gingham paper and made the 'popcorn' tag...and there you have it!  Popcorn cupcakes!

Party favors were easy too!

Thanks to all his fun friends for making it a special day!

Happy Birthday Car! You gave me the biggest hug to thank me for an awesome party and that was all I could ask for...so happy to have a party for such a great kid.
 We are so glad you are in our family.  You have really matured over this last year.  You help out a ton with Rylan ... he just adores his big brother!  You are doing great in school.  You are an amazing reader and writer. You love cubscouts, projects, and sports.  You love watching basketball and football with Dad.  You are so sweet with babies.  You love your scriptures and say the sweetest prayers.  I am so glad you are the big brother to Addison, Ry, and baby on the way.  And so blessed to have a son who will still give his Mom a hug and a kiss before school and before bed.  We love you!

Why I {Blog}

My little blog is a family journal. I include things on here I want to remember years and years from now. So when I post a zillion pictures...it is because I want to have it for my posterity. So please forgive the often posted-picture overload.

Currently I am trying to focus on my photography skills...reading, reading, reading, and taking pictures when I can. Then edit, read, read, read some more. I finally feel like I have a basic understanding of exposure...hooray! I updated my blog template so I can display larger photos because...aren't pictures better than anything I have to say anyway?

More about me here.
