We did another round of track and field this summer. Addy's running club opened to boys this year so we had a co-ed team: Running Rebels. What an awesome group of kids!!
They practiced once a week and had all kinds of incentives and awards along the way. Carson ran quite a bit outside of practice (helps to have a Dad who wants to run with you any chance he gets). And Addison...well, she loves the social aspect of running club. But her darn Achilles tendon flares up (even with custom orthotics this time around) and prevents her from doing much running. We are hoping it's growing pains because she does have that drive to compete.
They have 7 track meets, of which we only made 4 because of our crazy summer vacation schedule. But they had a really great time. Rylan joined up during the meets and loves it. Miles was on board for the first meet and then went through his "I'm scared" of everything phase and wouldn't even put a foot on the track the rest of the season. Stinker.
They competed in 4 events per meet. They did a variety of events including 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, softball throw, running long jump, and Carson did the 2 mile twice.
They complained some, but they really did have a fun time. The competition seems tougher than in years prior. Some serious athletes come in from all over and sweep some of the heats, but our little running club held their own. We figured out that the long distances had less competitors and our kids did well with that. Especially Carson at the 2 mile.
A few ribbons earned!
Some of Addy's good friends.
And all 3 at our last meet.
We are taking a break and skipping cross country season (in favor of soccer), but we'll be back in the spring/summer for another round of track. Such a fun sport for all my kiddos (all at the same time in the same place...can't beat that!!).
