Cape Disappointment & Astoria, OR

When the Carvers asked us to join them on a quick weekend trip to the Coast, I didn't think we'd be able to make it work with Trevor's work schedule ...but the stars aligned, and he was able to squeeze in yet another day off (Trevor is always great to try and work around all my plans...I know I ask a lot of him!!)

We headed out right after church straight down to Cape Disappointment which is on the Washington side of the Columbia River.   In addition to beautiful ocean views, there are two lighthouses as well as several gun batteries used in wars up until WWII.

We hiked down to this picturesque spot with a little water inlet.  Absolutely gorgeous and no one else there.

The Carver Pettingill crew!

We traveled a short distance (across the 4 mile bridge) to stay in Astoria.  The kids went swimming that night in the hotel and we took these pictures of the bridge during breakfast the next day.

 Before heading out to the beach we checked out the Goonies house in Astoria.  A couple months later, the owners put tarps over the house to discourage visitors. So glad we got to see it before that happened!  Of course we watched Goonies at least 2 times during the drives on this trip.  Classic!

A quick stop at Shipwreck beach where we told the kids to stay out of the water (yah right).

And then we headed to Cannon Beach for the rest of the afternoon. Haystack rock is quite a sight!

It looks sunny and warm...but it was so windy.  Jen and I hid out with Ivy under the sport umbrella and were actually quite warm when we were out of the wind.

After we played for a few hours we stopped in Seaside for ice cream to and walk around the darling town.  Wish we would have had more time...Seaside is adorable!

We have previously sworn off the OR/WA coast because we can never seem to catch decent weather, even in the summer.  And even though the weather wasn't ideal, it was pleasant enough to enjoy how beautiful the area is!  We always have the best time with the Carvers too!  Perfect little weekend summer trip!!

Why I {Blog}

My little blog is a family journal. I include things on here I want to remember years and years from now. So when I post a zillion is because I want to have it for my posterity. So please forgive the often posted-picture overload.

Currently I am trying to focus on my photography skills...reading, reading, reading, and taking pictures when I can. Then edit, read, read, read some more. I finally feel like I have a basic understanding of exposure...hooray! I updated my blog template so I can display larger photos because...aren't pictures better than anything I have to say anyway?

More about me here.
